Thoughts on love during a heatwave

Ella B Winters

I sit in the dark every day,

curtains drawn, face

perilously close to the

impotent fan nudging

my exhaustion around

the room. We may

need to move, I say,

to Greenland.

You buy an aircon unit

from Amazon,

go up the stairs each

night to turn it on

three hours before I go

to bed, cooling the air

just for me, so I can

rest. On the crisp

sheets, I float

in and out of sleep all

night, wondering how long

before Greenland is

under water.
